Tuna’s Tiny Crutches | Dog Halloween Costume

We have a dog named Tuna Fish Joe. It’s an unusual name for a dog that’s pretty unique. He’s a Basset Hound Pit Bull mix with a long torso full of solid muscle and stocky legs. His feet are just adorable.

We joke that God didn’t read the instruction manual and put his feet on backwards. Or his parachute didn’t open all the way and he used to be 4 feet tall. And our favorite—he was born with an extra cuteness gene. We rotate through a long list of reasons why his feet look the way they do. This keeps it interesting when everyone stops to ask what mix he is and what happened to his legs.

I used to make a cute dog Halloween costume for my childhood dog every year. So I thought I’d start up that tradition for Tuna. It seemed fitting to make him a tiny pair of crutches since it looks like he had a run in with the mob. Seriously Tuna, ya gotta pay your debts little dude!

The crutches are pretty basic and made out of dowel rods, popsicle sticks, felt, and some rubber feet. I’m a horrible woodworker. I only have basic tools, which should’ve been enough for this project. Yet I felt like I had no idea what I was doing as I constructed them. At any rate, I’m hoping Tuna’s SUPER cuteness will mask any issues with my craftsmanship. I already have the perfect dog Halloween costume idea for next year. Now, if we can just keep Tuna from chewing on his costume :)
